Treemendous! World’s tallest wooden tower on its way to sweden?

The Scandinavian architecture firm has proposed a 34-storey skyscraper for Stockholm made almost entirely of wood.

If approved, the timber tower would be even taller than America’s tallest wooden building, reports Dezeen

How can you make a tower out of wood? Quite simply replace the steel and concrete with natural timber. Pillars, beams, walls, ceilings - all of them are made of the brown stuff and encased in a glass facade.

The use of wooden materials makes construction much cheaper, the firm’s Ola Jonsson explained to the magazine, while the process would also involve for less carbon dioxide production.

"The main reason it hasn't been done before is that concrete and steel have a big part of the market,” suggested the architect, noting that wood would also cost less to transport. "But now the building industry has started taking responsibity for the environment."

The green approach does not stop there, though: solar panels would also be on the roof for every apartment - enough of an eco-boost to balance out the (whisper it) concrete core for the building.

What do you think? Tree-mendous or worth leave-ing alone?
