Overseas property news - Potter's palace

Potter's palace

He's already a big cheese in the movie world and now Daniel Radcliffe is emerging as a serious player on the Big Apple property market - the 20-year-old Harry Potter star has just purchased his third property in New York, a townhouse worth almost £4million...

It means he now has an impressive £10million prperty empire in the city, not to mention a flat back on home turf in Fulham, West London.

The enviable portfolio is a match for his movie co-star Rupert Grint, who, as the Mail reported this month, has recently added a fourth property - and second country mansion - to his own collection of homes in Hertfordshire.

With five bedrooms, Radcliffe's £3.76million West Village townhouse measures 3,000sq ft and was built in 1847 by a sea captain for his daughter.

According to property records, the latest purchase, which includes a 39ft long garden, was completed in the past month.

Radcliffe's mother Marcia's name is on the deeds to the property and it is registered to the same company as his previous home purchases.

A Sotheby's brochure said: 'The property is on one of New York's most picturesque tree-lined landmark cobblestone blocks.'

Radcliffe's first New York purchase was two years ago, a £3.2million fifth-floor apartment in a 'sexy new development' in the SoHo district.

He never moved in, instead leasing it out for £3,000 a week.

Then, a few months later, he paid just over £3million for a three-bedroom condo apartment with stunning views across the Hudson River.

He had planned to move into the 11th floor property while he appeared on Broadway in the play Equus, which transferred from the London stage.

The young star, who is estimated to have a fortune at over £20million from appearing in six Harry Potter films, is due to return to Broadway next year.

Their brochure said of the latest house: 'This lovingly renovated townhouse is one of three adjoining homes built by a sea captain in 1847 for his three daughters.

'The property is on one of New York's most picturesque tree-lined landmark cobblestone blocks, West 12th Street, between Greenwich and Washington Streets.

'The 18 plus-foot-wide house faces South, and is soaked in sunlight throughout the day. The sizeable open garden and backyard is cooled by beautiful old trees and landscaping.'

The house has a separate one-floor flat on the ground floor.

The young actor's property portfolio in the U.S. more than matches that of his Potter co-star Rupert Grint, who owns homes worth almost £10million.

Aged just 21, Grint owns two country mansions and another large, detached house, all mortgage-free.

Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, recently purchased a Hertfordshire manor house set in 22 acres, for which he paid £5.4million.

The 18th century property has five reception rooms and six bedroom suites.

The manor came with two cottages in the substantial grounds and has both inside and outside swimming pools.

As for fellow Potter star Emma Watson, she is no slouch when it comes to property.

She recently spent £3million on a North London townhouse and is thought to own a £1million ski chalet in a French resort.
