Poland tourism push increases in lead-up to euro cup

Poland is preparing to take center stage at this week's ITB Berlin travel show as it steps up its tourism marketing ahead of the 2012 European football cup.

ITB Berlin, one of the biggest travel events of the year, traditionally welcomes thousands of travel agents, tourism officials and other big names in the travel world during its five-day run, meaning consumers could soon be hearing much more about Poland as a tourism destination.

The country is set to wow industry bigwigs by opening the fair with a multimedia show which mixes 3D film with a live dance performance from Polish choreographer Agustin Egurrola, as well as an appearance by Lech Walesa, the former president of the Republic of Poland turned international human-rights activist.

The stars of the 3D film, five brightly colored toys and a blank dice designed to represent the diversity of attractions in Poland, will feature heavily on the country's 1,500 square meter stand at the show, which will showcase everything from individual cities to traditional Polish food.

Although Poland is set to play a major role, it'll be among hundreds of countries trying to attract attention at the enormous ITB show, with new films apparently among the most popular way to do so.

Other countries coming under the spotlight will be those along the Silk Route, the overland route between Europe and Asia which takes in over 25 countries and is set to be heavily promoted by a consortium of tourism authorities and the UN World Tourism Organization.
