Ikea's assembles first flatpack homes for us

Those buying homes in the US may well want it to include a Pax or Abstrakt or other IKEA furnishings. But now, buyers can have a completely flatpack home as the Swedish company is assembling its first line for the American market.

Aiming to be environmentally friendly as well as cost efficient, the "Aktiv" homes will combine fibre-cement and corrugated metal for the main structure and be produced with Oregon architects Ideabox. Jim Russell, president of Ideabox, told PSFK that the pre-fab properties will "bring all the fun and design of Ideabox houses together with all the function, design and personality of IKEA."

The houses will be priced at $79,500 and will span a total of 745 square feet. That's enough room for all the Abstrakts and Paxes that you could want. And there's not an Allen key in sight.
