Dennis Hopper's Venice compound has finally found a buyer.

The expansive estate includes five buildings, designed by Brian Murphy and Frank Gehry, a lap pool and a 100-year-old cottage, all situated across one-third of an acre. How much does such a home cost? It was initially listed in July 2010 for $6.245 million by the Dennis Hopper Trust, reportedly in an attempt to raise funds to pay off the late actor's debts.

"'It's been described as a floodlit fortress,' the architect Murphy told Cigar Aficionado in 2001. 'It's an interior landscape bereft of windows with sliding walls that can showcase his enormous art collection on both sides. The entire structure keeps morphing to suit his changing lifestyle. Dennis is a very sophisticated person in terms of aesthetics and he's been very involved in aspects of the design.'

"Last year," the magazine continued, "Hopper purchased the small Craftsman house on the opposite side of the main house, transforming it into a modern guest cottage situated near his new combination lap pool/Jacuzzi. 'I tried to buy that little house for years, but the old lady who lived there just wouldn't sell it to me,' Hopper says. 'She finally died and her daughter quickly sold it to me. I guess I outlived her,' he says, with a grin."

The house, which was occupied by Hopper's almost-ex-wife Victoria Duffy for some time after his death, struggled to find a willing investor, despite the pedigree of both its bricks and mortar and former owner. Since then, the price tag has been reduced several times, first to $5.194 million, then $4.799 million.

It ultimately sold last month for $5 million.
