Live like the boss: springsteen house for sale

The ultimate Bruce Springsteen collectible has hit the market: his old home.

The singer's house, built in 1920, spans a mere 828 square feet. With two bedrooms, a bath, living room and a small yard, it's far from the celebrity estates that TheMoveChannel.com is used to seeing: apart from being located just one block from the beach, the closest thing it has to a luxury feature is a front porch.

But the property plays a vital role in American music history: it's the place where The Boss wrote Born to Run.

"I was living in a small house in West Long Branch, New Jersey, up the Coast from Asbury," he says in the documentary Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run. "One day I was playing guitar on the edge of the bed working on some song ideas and the words 'born to run' came to me."

The house - described as a "cottage" by NBC - was home to the singer when he was 26. Springsteen lived there for two years in 1974 and 1975, penning his iconic ballad before moving on.

Since then, the property has been owned by three men, who picked up the house in 2009 for $280,000 to stop it from being destroyed. The property is a regular stop for Bruce fans, pausing outside to take photos or even request a tour.

"You meet a lot of nice people," its resident and co-owner told NBC. But now, he's moving out to get married, prompting the trio to list it for sale.

While the co-owners had the home in their care, they gave it a major DIY job, from repairing a side wall and installing hardwood floors to refurbishing the bathroom.

The price to live like The Boss? $349,000.
