Singapore's new budget airline 'good news' for expats
A new budget airline launched in Singapore this week, capitalising on a growing demand for low-cost travel around Asia.
Scoot is Singapore Airlines' latest venture and describes itself as a medium to long-haul no-frills carrier which will fly to destinations five to 10 hours away. Initially this will include cities in Australia and China.
It is one of four new airlines being launched in south-east Asia over the next 12 months as rapid economic growth has boosted household incomes and the opportunity for foreign travel.
Thai Airways is due to launch two new budget airlines – including Thai Smile in July 2012. The airline has also announced plans for an “ultra low-cost carrier” although no timetable has been given.
