The duplex, which spans 6,000 square feet, overlooks Central Park and boasts an impressive six bedrooms. Madonna bought a condo in Harperley Hall, on the corner of West 64th Street, back in the 1980s. Over the years, the singer purchased two other apartments and joined them together to form the large duplex across the fifth and sixth floors the building.

But even with five wood fireplaces, a library and two large living rooms complete with Juliet balcones - not to mention the marble bathroom included in the master bedroom - the duplex struggled to find a buyer.

Madonna was sued by one of her neighbours in 2009, reports The Daily Mail: Karen George, another resident in the building, accused Madonne of being a “noisy neighbour” thanks to loud music coming out of her recording studio - also in the apartment.

The dispute was settled out of court in December 2011, adds the newspaper.

Nonetheless, the singer has not resided in the flat for quite some time: in 2009, she bought a townhouse on Upper East Side following her separation from former husband Guy Ritchie. She now lives there with her children, prompting her to list the duplex last November.

The original asking price was $23.5 million but after half a year of no interest, Madonna cut the price by 15 per cent to $19.995 million - a low enough price tag to attract Deepak Narula, a former Trader at the Lehman Brothers.
