As with EasyJet mogul Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, if there's one thing that you can depend on Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary for, it's that he's constantly unpredictable.

After pointing out the obvious about the airline industry's carbon emissions, Mr O'Leary has just trumped all of his rivals in the race to open-up new EU-US air travel routes by announcing to Flight International magazine that Ryanair plan to launch transatlantic flights to six US cities from European airports within four years, with ticket prices starting at just £6.50.

Mr O'Leary said that Ryanair plans to increase its revenue on its transatlantic services through the sale of food, duty-free items, in-flight entertainment. Ryanair are reportedly planning to purchase 50 wide-body jets to operate their transatlantic services.
