Film pioneer d.w. Griffith's tappan zee haunt for sale

Director of the seminal—and controversial—1915 film, Birth of a Nation, D.W. Griffith introduced the feature film to American theatergoers. When Griffith sought refuge from the crowds, he may retreated here, to a former bottling plant he owned in Nyack, N.Y., on the western bank of the Hudson. The compound has been significantly altered since Griffith's day, but retains a tortured artist look, with luxurious sections and dilapidated loft spaces sitting side-by-side. Listed for $1.25M, the former factory was converted into a residence in 1975 and features three beds and two baths over 3,400 square feet. Sited on a former quarry, the 1.7-acre plot sits all too close to the busy Tappan Zee bridge, but at least it enjoys deeded access to the riverfront across the street.
