Cushman & wakefield shifts its focus from dubai to bahrain

International property agency Cushman & Wakefield announced this week that is going to “significantly downsize” its operation in Dubai and concentrate on growing its business in Bahrain and Qatar.

Mike Atwell, the head of C&W's Middle East operations said that the slowdown in the UAE property market, combined with the number of firms vying for local business, has made it difficult for the company to thrive in Dubai.

C&W opened its Dubai office in September 2008, just before the market crashed. The agency group will now cut staff numbers in its Dubai office as part of a restructuring that will see the international property consultancy shift its focus to Qatar and Bahrain, where Atwell will be based.

C & W is understood to have made several redundancies and seen a number of resignations after it announced the restructuring plans.
