Global iplayer launches in western europe
BBC Worldwide has today launched a global version of BBC iPlayer in 11 countries across Western Europe, with the US, Canada and Australia to follow later in the year.
The new global BBC iPlayer App, announced in June, offers audiences across Europe the chance to catch up on classic and modern BBC TV shows via video on-demand exclusively on the iPad.
Users in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland can access the app by paying €6.99 (£6.12) a month, or €49.99 for an annual subscription.
Available shows include classic comedies such as Fawlty Towers and Only Fools and Horses, new drama including Sherlock and Luther, as well as favourite BBC shows such as EastEnders, Top Gear, and archive Doctor Who.
