Viceroy hotel group expands in abu dhabi
Los Angeles-based Viceroy Hotel Group will run the Yas Hotel, the resort at the center of Abu Dhabi's Formula One race course, a local paper reports.
The 499-room hotel deal marks the first location for Viceroy outside North America - and the second in Abu Dhabi, the article notes.
The hotel operator currently runs high-end, design-driven Viceroy hotels in Santa Monica and Palm Springs, Calif.; Miami and Anguilla in the Caribbean. The Viceroy Hotel Group also runs other hotels that don't carry the Viceroy name, such as the upscale Avalon and Maison 140 in Beverly Hills and the famously discreet, luxury L'Ermitage also in Beverly Hills.
Viceroy was also chosen to run a 250-room hotel - the Viceroy Abu Dhabi - planned for Sowwah Island, the new financial district where Four Seasons and Rosewood have also announced hotel projects, the National says. But the paper reported four months ago that the Viceroy Abu Dhabi project had been put on hold until the economy improves.
