Watch - haiti quake victims forced out of tents

Hundreds of thousands made homeless by the earthquake which struck Haiti three years ago are now facing eviction from their emergency shelters. According to a damning report by Amnesty International, 65,000 people have been illegally removed from camps since 2010. It appears landlords are getting impatient with tents pitched on their property. One of the report's authors Chiara Liquoria, a Caribbean researcher at Amnesty International, spoke of the level of intimidation camp dwellers faced. "These people have been victimized for months with the threat of being evicted. Sometimes they are being attacked by uniformed officers and sometimes plain clothes people in the middle of the night who arrive with knives and matches and destroy the tents." Three years on from the disaster, 320,000 people remain in camps. The report claims that the government has condoned evictions. Justice Minister Jean Sanon said the government was against forced evictions. He also reminded the police not to get involved in forced expulsions. "The police are supposed to be there to protest and to serve," he added.

Watch - spain's unemployment rate jumps to 27 percent

More than six million Spaniards were out of work in the first quarter of this year, raising the jobless rate in the eurozone's fourth biggest economy to 27.2 percent from 26.02 percent in the previous quarter, the highest since records began in the 1970s. The number of unemployed climbed by 237,400 people to 6.2 million, the National Statistics Institute said on Thursday. Spain, once the motor of job creation in the 17-nation single currency area, is in a double dip recession, having yet to recover from the collapse of a property boom in 2008. Watch - forced evictions in spain

The Spanish Association of Registrars considers that during 2012 over 30 thousand houses were seized by the banks and another 11 thousand houses were used as a pay in kind for unpaid mortgages. After blocking out the guaranty of a pay in kind for all the evicted, the government has decided to put on their best face and grant 1000 flats in Madrid for those who most need it. This is the first one. Other citizens, living just a mile away from this house, are protesting against the Public Housing Company of Madrid. They rented over 5 years ago when prices were at their highest, and now with the crisis, are paying 3 times more than other people in the same conditions. The government of Andalusia, who have decided to seize empty flats in hands of the banks in order to put them on a social housing stock, have presented a different approach in the solution of this problem.
