Urban adventures in auckland

Upon hearing that I was going to visit Auckland, friends asked what I would do there.

"What is there to do, besides gaze at sheep?" chortled one pal, when told that I was off on a 10-day vacation to the New Zealand metropolis.

Not having visited the city at all, she could not have been faulted for believing the myth that the Kiwi city was popular for only two things: being the backdrop for The Lord Of The Rings movies and, yes, the multitude of sheep.

My trip came in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake tragedy in February and, although Auckland is not located on South Island, New Zealand as a whole mourned her losses.
