Overseas property news - Israeli second homes hit by council tax spike

Israeli second homes hit by council tax spike

Israel is planning to make the cost of owning a second home in Israel more expensive by increasing council taxes on homes that are not in constant use. The cabinet approved the rise this week, as the fourth part of the Trajtenberg Report. The price is likely to be double the current tax take.

Local protest leader Stav Shafir told OPP that “the contribution [by people who own second homes] does not make up for the fact that there are people with nowhere to live because of the homes they take up."
