Overseas property news - Zurich is world's most expensive city

Zurich is world's most expensive city

Five Asian cities make it into the 10 top priciest destinations to live, based on a basket of goods and services such as food, transport, private education and domestic help.

The survey uses New York as its benchmark. Zurich is 70 per cent more expensive to live in than the Big Apple, while Tokyo is 66 per cent pricier. Popular expat city Sydney ranks seventh, Melbourne eighth while Singapore is ninth.

The top 10 most expensive places to live are equally divided between Europe and Asia, with Oslo, Paris, Frankfurt and Geneva completing the European contingent.

But the survey doesn’t take into account property prices, which would likely push Asian cities such as Hong Kong and Singapore further up the ranks given the high costs of homes on the islands.
